Back
in October, in the early stages of planning for his summer performances
with Britten Sinfonia, brilliant French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard
spoke to Fiona Talkington about his career and collaborations, his approach
to choosing repertoire, and the joys and challenges of playing Mozart.
Pierre-Laurent and Britten Sinfonia performed together to great acclaim
earlier in June. See

If you missed our Insight
into Stravinsky event on 28 April 2008, or if you
were there and want to relive the experience, here’s your chance.
We recorded the whole event and have released it as a special podcast.
Cambridge University lecturers Ryan Wigglesworth and John Hopkins give
a musically-illustrated talk about Stravinsky, neo-classicism and the
diverse cultural scene in early 20th century Europe. In the second part
of the talk, you can hear John’s interviews with conductor Masaaki
Suzuki and soprano Rachel Nicholls. At around 40 minutes, this is a little
longer than our usual podcasts: a chance to sit back, relax and enjoy
a fascinating insight into one of the greatest musical minds of all time.

Our
latest podcast offers an exclusive preview of some of Cambridge's hottest
new composing talent. Every year, Britten Sinfonia holds a Composers'
Workshop
for students at Cambridge University , in which aspiring young composers
are put through their paces by James MacMillan and Britten Sinfonia musicians.
For the first time this year, we recorded the process and will be bringing
you the opportunity to hear the music whilst the ink is (almost) still
wet on the page! SinfoniaCast05 also includes interviews with all of the
students, as well as James MacMillan, Robin Holloway and Richard Sisson.

Richard
Causton is our commissioned composer for the first of this season’s
Britten Sinfonia At Lunch concerts. He met with Fiona Talkington at the
beginning of December to chat about his experience of writing for Britten
Sinfonia. The commission was distinctive for him because he was asked
to respond to an existing piece of repertoire – Ravel’s Introduction
and Allegro – and compose for the same group of instruments. The
result is a piece called Divertimento, premièred in Krakow on Sunday
16 December and then touring to Birmingham, Cambridge, London and Norwich.

in New York last month. Eavesdrop on their conversation as Gil reminisces
over his musical experiences with Miles Davis and Gil Evans and looks
forward to his London
Jazz Festival Collaboration with Britten Sinfonia.
Fiona Talkington introduces the interview.

In advance
of her October concerts with Britten Sinfonia, young Russian violinist
Alina Ibragimova discussed Hartmann's evocative Concerto Funebre and told
Fiona Talkington about her busy career.
SinfoniaCast01
In
our very first podcast, Fiona Talkington talks to some of our key players
about the perils and pleasures of playing without a conductor, and finds
