The only UK performance of this continuously developing project marks the release of Sidewalk Dances, the much-anticipated Moondog CD and is Britten Sinfonia’s fourth consecutive appearance at the London Jazz Festival. Moondog’s short motifs combine his love of counterpoint with Native American rhythms and breezy swing beats. The sinewy structures of Bach’s greatest keyboard work explode into hot jazz improvisation and mellow into moments of soothing, hypnotic coolness.

Some of the biggest names in jazz and world music combine forces with the star soloists of Britten Sinfonia for this wonderfully imaginative take on one of the immortal masterpieces of the classical repertoire.

Praise for Art of Fugue in 2003:

'it intrigued and elated' Manchester Evening News

'The most unforgettable moments are those where Sheppard takes off into surreal flights of improvisational fancy, or where MacGregor fines the texture down to a ghostly echo of the original at the work’s still centre. Not to be missed.'

Evening Standard

'the applause follows every tune' The Independent

Praise for Joanna MacGregor and Britten Sinfonia:

'This was chamber music of rare quality. On this form, MacGregor could soon turn Britten Sinfonia into one of the hottest properties on the classical-jazz circuit.' The Observer
