Tavener Kaleidoscopes (world premiere tour)
John Tavener’s
music has an iconic quality that appeals across boundaries of musical
knowledge and spiritual belief. His theatrical oboe concerto, written
for Britten Sinfonia and Nicholas Daniel, is a musical mosaic, featuring
four string quartets and percussion. Tavener’s two greatest musical heroes
open the programme: Tchaikovsky said that his deeply romantic homage to
Mozart was composed ‘straight from the heart’.
‘Some
of the best oboe playing you'll hear anywhere.’ BBC Record Review
